Personally I LOVE building website and somehow manage to work them over break even (I make some profit out of it). I have a lot of virtual real estate but due to time constraint I was never able to maximize their revenue stream and was satisfied with the little revenue in adsense that I was generating.
But now since I have plenty of time and soon will FINALLY get a broadband connection, I hope to be spending more time on my hobby of building websites.
In this blog I would feature a number of ideas that you could use to build your own websites that you could work on monetizing.
I love numbers and the bigger the better as long as I can make some kind of profit from them.
So this time you could start your own URL shrotening site similar to TinyUrl.com
Just a note here, irrespective of the site that you build you would need to initially put some time on off site promotion but with so many free mediums in hand (free directories, forums, social bookmarking sites, etc), it would not be so difficult, just time consuming.

Just remember that if you are planning to built a stand alone site like I did, then get yourself a short and a sweet domain.
Personally I am not making much as I never actually promoted it, but instead I am using it to disguise my affiliate links.

Yup and one of them is mine..
I make about $ 9-12 a month in adsense clicks, plus find it very cute so hang on to it

Could you help me, I dont see much in the way of directions. I added the mysql info and create the table. But I get a 404 error when I try to view the link created. Is there something else to edit or change permissions on?

I found the orginal package that had the htaccess file in it
Any thought on how to make it so if the user inputs multiple tags like ” cool site” the script will see the space and give it a default link or kick back an error saying wrong format? This would apply to all character inputted in the tag box ie. “1234567890=+{}[]/?><,.~`’” this way the only accepted way to break the tags would be with “_-” only for the tags though

William on my site if I give a tag with space, a numeric tag is assigned automatically and in case I use special characters, they are ignored.

Hi Franca, the site urlpill.com is mine.
If you would like to make a site like that, all you will need to do is download the attached files and upload it to your webhost.
You will need to run the attached sql query to format the database. (you will find that in the Read Me File)
