Internet Marketing Glossary
Since we will be discussing many online marketing concepts and programs, I though it best to start from
the basics and cover a few terms that we hear and read quite often in discussions among webmaster peers.
I hope to develop a comprehensive Internet Marketing Glossary that will explain most of the possible jargons that we use in and around the online sphere of web marketers.
If you would like to correct me or would like to contribute in building this Glossary then please do not hesitate to contact me.
In this post I will cover some of the terms that we most frequently come across and I will keep adding new ones on my Glossary page.
Hope this is useful to all and especially the newer webmasters who are on the path of learning the tricks of the trade, that includes me too.
Let’s start with a few things you will see when you login to your Google Adsense account.

CTR/ Page CTR (Click Trough Rate): The percentage of visitors that have clicked on an advertisement. Say for example a website receives 100 visitors out of which one of the visior clicks an ad, so the CTR would be 1%.
CPM/Page eCPM (cost per thousand, the letter “M” in the abbreviation is the Roman numeral for one thousand): The cost incurred for displaying an advertisement for a 1000 times. As a ad publisher the higher the figure, the more you earn.

Conversion Rate (CR): This is the percentage of visitors who actually end up buying a product or service by clicking
an ad on your webpage. This is calculated by dividing the number of click by the number of actual conversion (number of people who actually ended up buying something).
* CR= Number of clicks/Actual conversions

same website 4 to 5 times a day, even then the system will log is as 1 unique visit.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): (in brief) Techniques undertaken for displaying the website as the top result when someone searches for a particular keyword in the SE (Search Engine.eg.Google,Live).

Reciprocal Link/Link Exchange: The practice of placing each others link on ones website. Example: If Site A and Site B place a clickable link to each others sites, it is called the practice of exchanging reciprocal links. This exchange takes place between two websites.
Three way link exchange: The practice of placing each others link on ones websites, without cross linking them. Say for example a clickable link for Site A is place on Site B and a clickable link to Site B is placed on Site C, this practice is called a “Three way link exchange”. This kind of link exchange takes place between three websites.
Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising: A marketing system where an advertiser agrees to pay a certain amount of money , each time his ad is clicked.
